Blacksburg, VA – Residents across Southwest Virginia are heading into a significant midweek warmup, with temperatures potentially reaching the middle 80s before a changing weather pattern brings showers back to the region Thursday and Friday.
According to the National Weather Service NWS in Blacksburg, high pressure over the Southeast will bring drier conditions and above normal temperatures during the first half of the week. A warm front is expected Thursday, followed by an approaching cold front Friday.
Monday, October 12 , begins with lingering mountain showers ending and skies gradually clearing. Afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach 67 to 74 degrees in the mountains and 75 to 80 degrees across the Piedmont.

Wednesday could be the warmest day of the week , with highs between 77 and 83 degrees in the mountains and 84 to 89 degrees across the Piedmont, according to the forecast graphic.
Conditions begin changing Thursday as clouds increase ahead of an approaching weather system. Afternoon showers become possible, with temperatures ranging from 73 to 78 degrees in the mountains and 79 to 85 degrees in the Piedmont.
By Friday, a cold front is expected to approach, bringing additional shower chances, particularly across mountain communities. Highs should ease to 67 to 75 degrees in the mountains and 76 to 84 degrees across the Piedmont.
For residents traveling along Interstate 81 or through the Blue Ridge Mountains, Thursday and Friday's showers could produce wet road conditions. However, widespread travel disruptions have not been indicated.
