Silver Cliff, Colorado – A brief tornado touched down in the far western portions of the Wet Mountains late last month, with officials confirming the event today. The twister, which moved through a remote area, caused no reported structural damage, property loss, or injuries.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo , the tornado occurred on Thursday, August 27. It stayed on the ground for a duration of just one minute, between 3:55 p.m. and 3:56 p.m. MDT. The path of the tornado spanned only 0.11 miles with a maximum width of five yards.
The agency has officially classified the event as an EF Unknown EF U storm. This rating is typically reserved for tornadoes where damage is not sufficient to assign a specific intensity on the Enhanced Fujita scale. Mapping data confirms the path was located southeast of Silver Cliff, impacting the rugged terrain near the intersection of County Road 328 and County Road 356.
Meteorologists determined the occurrence of the storm through a combination of social media content and reports from emergency management personnel. While the event was brief and isolated to the western reaches of the mountain range, officials continue to monitor regional weather patterns for any signs of development.
