According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, a resident reported receiving a call from an individual claiming to be from a government agency. The caller alleged that a package containing firearms had been intercepted, and that a charge of $2,900 was associated with the purchase.
The scammer demanded payment to clear the charges and avoid legal consequences. The resident, who recognized the call as a potential fraud, did not provide any personal or financial information and contacted authorities.
