Rosamond, California – On August 3, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m., deputies from the Kern County Sheriff 's Office were confronted by an individual armed with a sword on 15th Street West in Rosamond. During the confrontation, an officer involved shooting occurred.
Authorities identified the suspect as 22 year old Joshua Dribin. According to reports, deputies on the scene provided medical treatment to Dribin for his non life threatening injuries before he was transported to a hospital. No deputies or additional civilians were reported injured during the incident.
Dribin has been arrested and charged with several offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, resisting a peace officer using force, exhibiting a deadly weapon to resist arrest, and obstructing or delaying a peace officer in the performance of their duties. Homicide detectives were dispatched to the scene to conduct a formal investigation, as is standard department procedure regarding the use of deadly force.
The investigation into the shooting has since been submitted to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office for criminal review. On September 3, 2026, the Kern County Sheriff's Office convened an Incident Review Board to examine the circumstances of the encounter, ultimately determining the use of force to be within departmental policy.
