Porter County, IN – Families planning their Halloween night in Northwest Indiana can start marking their calendars, with official trick or treat hours now announced for unincorporated areas of Porter County.
According to the Porter County Sheriff's Office, trick or treating in unincorporated portions of the county will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 .
The three hour window applies specifically to areas of Porter County outside incorporated cities and towns. Families living within a municipality should check with their local government or police department because trick or treat schedules can vary by community.
The sheriff's office announced the hours Tuesday morning, nearly four weeks before Halloween, giving parents and residents time to prepare for the annual evening of costumes and candy.
Officials also encouraged residents to have a good time and stay safe during Halloween activities.
With sunset occurring during the evening festivities, families should prepare for trick or treating after dark. Children can be made more visible to motorists by carrying flashlights or glow sticks and wearing reflective materials with their costumes.
Drivers traveling through residential neighborhoods should also watch for increased pedestrian traffic during the designated hours, particularly as children move between homes.
Porter County is part of the Northwest Indiana region near the Chicago metropolitan area, and Halloween schedules may differ among nearby cities and towns.
For residents of unincorporated Porter County , however, the official 2026 trick or treat window is set: 5 to 8 p.m. on Halloween night .
