Oregon Man Sentenced to 31 Years for Murder of Young Son

Coos Bay, OR – A Coos County man has been sentenced to over 31 years in prison following his guilty plea for the murder of his nine-year-old son. Levi Higgins-Green appeared before the Honorable Judge Martin Stone on August 31, 2026, to receive his sentence for a series of crimes that included domestic violence and second-degree murder.

The investigation into the case began on September 28, 2025, when the Coos County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a child who had been stabbed with a spear at a residence off Cape Arago Highway. While initial reports suggested the boy's sister was responsible, investigators eventually determined that Higgins-Green had stabbed the child. The probe also revealed a long-term pattern of domestic violence involving other children and adults residing in the home.

Higgins-Green pleaded guilty to a total of seven charges, including strangulation, multiple counts of assault, criminal mistreatment, and murder in the second degree. Judge Stone accepted the plea, imposing a combined sentence of 80 months for the first six counts, plus an additional life sentence with a 25-year minimum. The total minimum prison term is set at 380 months, or 31.6 years.

The case was a collaborative effort involving the Coos County Sheriff's Office, the Coos Bay Police Department, the Oregon State Police, the Kids Hope Center, the Charleston Fire Department, and Bay Cities Ambulance, with additional support from the Eugene Police Department. District Attorney Jody Newby successfully prosecuted the case.
