Ohio River Forecast Center Warns of Weekend Flood Risk

The US National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center has issued a hydrologic advisory for the coming days as heavy rainfall is expected to persist through Friday, September 18, 2026. Forecasters predict 48-hour precipitation totals ranging from 0.5 to 2.5 inches, with the potential for even higher amounts in areas impacted by severe storms.

According to the Ohio River Forecast Center, the heavy rainfall is expected to continue throughout the weekend, largely over the same regions already hit by recent storms. This sustained precipitation is likely to cause significant river rises leading into early next week, with an elevated risk of flash flooding across the area.

Public safety officials have highlighted that the greatest flood risk is concentrated within a specific zone outlined in current outlook maps. Residents in these areas are advised to prepare for potential rapid rises in local waterways and to remain vigilant regarding local flood alerts.
