Northeast Montana is heading into a striking October temperature swing, with overnight readings falling into the 20s before afternoon temperatures climb into the 70s by Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
The changing conditions will be especially noticeable around Glasgow, where a chilly Thursday night gives way to a rapid warmup Friday and Saturday, followed by another stretch of cooler but generally sunny weather.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, temperatures are expected to fall to approximately 26 degrees Thursday night before reaching 64 degrees Friday and 73 degrees Saturday.
That represents a 47 degree difference between Thursday night's projected low and Saturday's afternoon high, highlighting the considerable day to day variability possible during October in northeast Montana.
Cold Nights Give Way to Weekend Warmth Thursday will bring sunshine and a high near 52 degrees in Glasgow, although northwest winds of 16 to 20 mph could gust as high as 32 mph.
The coldest conditions arrive Thursday night, when temperatures are expected to drop into the mid 20s under mostly clear skies.
Residents with sensitive outdoor vegetation should be mindful of the subfreezing temperatures, particularly before the warmer weekend arrives.
By Friday, sunshine and southeast winds will accompany a substantial recovery into the mid 60s.
Saturday brings the warmest afternoon of the forecast period, with Glasgow reaching approximately 73 degrees under sunny skies.
The temperature rebound will be short lived, however, as highs settle back into the lower to middle 60s beginning Sunday.
Dry Weather Continues Into Next Week The extended outlook suggests a generally quiet weather pattern for Glasgow, with sunshine continuing Sunday and Monday before partly sunny skies arrive Tuesday.
High temperatures are expected to remain in the 60s through early next week, while overnight lows gradually recover from the coldest readings earlier in the period.
The supplied Glasgow forecast does not indicate measurable precipitation during the five day outlook.
Although NOAA's broader national outlook highlights a significant late week temperature change across portions of the central United States, the local Glasgow forecast points toward a brief cold spell followed by substantial weekend warming.
