Jacksonville, FL – Drivers across northeast Florida and southeast Georgia could encounter rapidly changing visibility early Wednesday as patches of dense fog reduce visibility to one half mile or less along area roadways.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Special Weather Statement issued at 2:31 a.m. EDT Wednesday, Oct. 14, warns that locally dense fog will affect portions of the region through approximately 7 a.m.
The statement covers a broad area extending from Jacksonville and St. Augustine into Gainesville, Lake City, Brunswick, Waycross and surrounding communities.
Fog Creates Early Morning Driving Concerns Forecasters warn that visibility could change considerably over short distances, making travel conditions unpredictable through sunrise.
The statement includes Duval, Clay, Nassau, St. Johns, Alachua and Columbia counties in Florida, along with Glynn, Camden, Ware and other counties in southeast Georgia.
Motorists should remain alert for sudden reductions in visibility, particularly along roadways where fog develops unevenly.
The fog is expected to improve after sunrise, with Jacksonville's local forecast calling for sunshine and temperatures reaching approximately 86 degrees Wednesday.
Patchy morning fog remains possible Thursday and Friday, although the current Special Weather Statement specifically addresses Wednesday morning.
Weekend Brings Cooler, Windier Conditions Beyond the immediate fog concern, Jacksonville faces a noticeable temperature change heading into the weekend.
The National Weather Service forecasts a high near 88 degrees Friday before temperatures fall to approximately 74 Saturday, a 14 degree drop in afternoon highs.

Temperatures should remain in the mid 70s Sunday, when a 30% chance of afternoon showers develops.
