Porter, NY – A 52 year old motorcyclist was airlifted to a Buffalo area hospital Wednesday after a collision with a Jeep on Lower River Road in Niagara County left him with a severe leg injury.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded around 5:07 p.m. Wednesday to 3970 Lower River Road in the Town of Porter for a reported crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.
A preliminary investigation found the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Lower River Road at a high rate of speed when it entered a curve, crossed the center line and moved into oncoming traffic, authorities said.
The motorcycle entered the path of a northbound 2017 Jeep. Investigators said the Jeep's driver attempted to take evasive action, but the vehicles collided in the northbound lane.
The motorcyclist, identified only as a 52 year old Youngstown man, was ejected and suffered a severe leg injury. Responding deputies applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding before emergency medical crews arrived.
Mercy Flight transported the rider to Erie County Medical Center for treatment. The sheriff's office said he is expected to survive.
The driver and passenger inside the Jeep were not injured.
Authorities have not announced any citations or charges stemming from the collision. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office said the crash remains under investigation.
