Parents and caregivers are being urged to stop using CuberShop Magnetic Speed Cubes after a federal recall announced Aug. 13 over loose high powered magnets that can be swallowed by children and cause life threatening injuries. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the cubes were packaged with small, powerful magnets that can detach or were included loose in the product packaging. The agency says the product violates the mandatory federal toy safety standard and poses a serious ingestion hazard to young children. When one or more high strength magnets are swallowed, they can attract each other or other metal objects inside the digestive tract, the CPSC said. That attraction can pinch or trap tissue, potentially causing perforations, twisting or blockages in the intestines, severe infections and even death. The recall notice names SKY CUBE HK as the importer. Specific retailers or sales channels were not listed in the federal notice; owners who have the CuberShop Magnetic Speed Cubes should stop using them immediately and keep them away from children and pets. Consumers are advised to contact the importer or manufacturer to arrange a refund or replacement. Anyone who suspects a child has swallowed a magnet should seek medical attention right away, as symptoms may not appear immediately but can become life threatening.
