OKK Trading Easter LED Headbands Recalled for Battery Ingestion Risk

Federal regulators announced on Aug. 6 a recall of OKK Trading’s Easter themed LED headbands after finding they pose a danger to young children who can access small lithium coin batteries inside the toy. According to the CPSC, the headbands violate the mandatory safety standard for toys that contain button cell or coin batteries because the lithium batteries can be reached easily by children, creating a serious ingestion hazard. When swallowed, button cell and coin batteries can cause severe internal chemical burns and other injuries that may be life threatening. The agency said the risk is particularly acute for infants and toddlers who are more likely to put small parts in their mouths. The recall notice does not list specific retailers or lot numbers. Consumers who own the headbands are urged to stop using them immediately and keep them away from children until they can be returned or repaired. Parents and caregivers should check toys for loose battery compartments and look for small, easily removable batteries in any product intended for or accessible to children. The CPSC recommends seeking immediate medical attention if a child is suspected of swallowing a coin battery.
