MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — A 37 year old man was arrested Monday, Oct. 19, after allegedly attempting to use fraudulent identification to obtain tires from a local business before fleeing deputies on foot, authorities said.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded to a suspicious person report at Discount Tire, located at 24915 Interstate 45, after an employee reported that a customer appeared to be using a fraudulent Texas driver's license to secure credit for a tire purchase.
Suspect Allegedly Fled Deputies at Tire Store When deputies arrived, they located the man and attempted to speak with him.
Authorities said the suspect allegedly ran from deputies, prompting a brief foot pursuit.
Deputies detained the man, who allegedly refused to provide accurate identification.
Investigators later identified him as 37 year old Brent Bascombe .
During the investigation, deputies reported discovering multiple fraudulent paper identification cards in his possession.
Tires From Another Store Recovered Investigators determined that one of the identification cards had allegedly been used earlier at a Discount Tire location in neighboring Harris County.
Authorities said Bascombe had successfully obtained tires through fraudulent means at that location.
The tires were reportedly recovered from a U Haul vehicle he was operating and returned to Discount Tire.
Deputies also discovered that Bascombe had an active Florida warrant for criminal mischief, according to the sheriff's office.
Multiple Charges Filed Following Arrest Bascombe was arrested on charges of tampering with a government record, evading arrest or detention, fraudulent use or possession of identifying information, and failure to identify.
He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail for booking.
Authorities did not disclose the value of the tires or additional details about the alleged fraudulent credit applications.
The allegations have not been proven in court, and Bascombe is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
