Billings, MT – Drivers across portions of south central and eastern Montana could face hazardous travel conditions Monday morning, October 12, as areas of fog, low clouds and potentially icy roads create concerns during the morning commute. A sharp weather turnaround is also expected later this week, with freezing overnight temperatures followed by highs reaching the 70s Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, widespread precipitation will taper off Monday morning, although cloudy and cold conditions will persist. Fog could linger through midday, potentially reducing visibility on area highways and rural roads.
Fog and Icy Roads Raise Morning Concerns
The National Weather Service specifically warns that some roads may be icy, especially along the western foothills.
Drivers traveling through affected areas should reduce speeds, allow additional stopping distance and leave extra time for their morning commute.
Fog could redevelop Monday night, while lingering showers remain possible Tuesday.
Freezing Temperatures Expected This Week
Overnight temperatures are forecast to fall below freezing in several communities.
By Wednesday morning, lows could reach approximately 22 degrees in Harlowton, 26 in Big Timber and 30 in Baker.
Billings is forecast to experience overnight lows near 31 degrees Wednesday, with additional freezing temperatures possible later in the week.
Residents should consider protecting sensitive outdoor plants and monitoring local frost or freeze advisories.
Temperatures Could Reach the 70s Saturday
After the chilly start, a warming and drying trend is expected through the remainder of the workweek.
Billings could reach 71 degrees Saturday, while Miles City and Baker are forecast to reach approximately 71 and 72 degrees, respectively.
Sheridan could climb to 74 degrees.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to monitor updated forecasts as fog, freezing temperatures and road conditions change throughout the week.
