Springfield, Missouri – Heat index values could reach 105 degrees across southwest Missouri beginning Monday, raising heat-related illness concerns for outdoor workers, students and anyone spending extended periods outside through Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, temperatures will remain in the 90s for most of the week, with Monday-through-Thursday heat index values between 100 and 105 degrees. Monday's highs range from 92 to 99 degrees, with a 20% to 30% chance of rain.
Tuesday could bring the week's best opportunity for isolated showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances increase to 30% to 50%, while highs again reach 92 to 99 degrees. Most locations will remain dry despite daily rain opportunities.
Wednesday stays hot, with highs of 93 to 99 degrees and only a 15% to 20% rain chance. Thursday offers little relief as temperatures reach 91 to 97 degrees.
In Springfield and surrounding southwest Missouri communities, residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon heating, drink water frequently and check on people without reliable air conditioning. Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.
The prolonged heat remains the primary concern through Thursday, while isolated rain offers limited relief.
