Gregory Landing, Missouri – The Mississippi River could reach its 15 foot flood stage early Thursday, threatening areas along the river in Missouri and Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, a flood watch at Gregory Landing is now in effect from late Wednesday night through Saturday morning, affecting Clark County, Missouri, and Hancock County, Illinois.
The Mississippi River stood at 10.8 feet at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Gregory Landing. Flood stage is 15 feet, meaning the river would need to rise another 4.2 feet from Monday's observed level to reach flood stage.
The Weather Service says flood stage may be reached early Thursday morning. The watch means flooding is possible, and residents and others with interests near the Mississippi River should monitor rising water levels as Wednesday night approaches.
People in the watch area should remain alert for changing river conditions and be prepared for possible Flood Warnings. Those with property, equipment or other interests near the river should use the period before Wednesday night to monitor water levels and prepare for the possibility of flooding.
The flood watch continues through Saturday morning. The National Weather Service plans to issue its next statement by Tuesday afternoon, providing another update before the river could approach flood stage early Thursday.
