Miami, Florida – Residents across South Florida should prepare for extreme heat index values reaching 104 degrees by Thursday. The combination of humidity and high temperatures will make for a dangerous mid week period, necessitating frequent breaks for those working or exercising outdoors.
According to the National Weather Service , Wednesday will see a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, primarily after 11 a.m. The high will reach 89 degrees, but the heat index will feel as high as 106 degrees. Humidity remains a major factor throughout the week, with chances of precipitation ranging from 60% to 80% through the weekend.
Thursday brings a 60% chance of storms with heat index values climbing to 104 degrees. Friday will be particularly active with a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms, while Saturday remains the wettest day of the stretch with an 80% chance of storms throughout the day.
Hydration and staying indoors during the peak heating hours of the afternoon are recommended. The risk of lightning during frequent thunderstorms should not be underestimated, particularly when planning outdoor events.
