Lansing, Michigan – A severe thunderstorm watch is currently in effect for portions of Lower Michigan, Northwest Ohio, Lake Erie, and Lake Huron until 7 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026. A cluster of storms is expected to intensify and move across the region this evening, bringing a significant risk of severe weather.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, primary threats associated with this weather system include scattered damaging wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph. Additionally, isolated large hail events up to 1.5 inches in diameter are possible, and the risk of a tornado or two cannot be ruled out as the storms track east-southeastward.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant. A severe thunderstorm watch indicates that conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather. Officials urge the public to keep an eye on changing conditions and to monitor local reports for any further weather statements or specific warnings that may be issued throughout the remainder of the evening.
