Baton Rouge, LA – A Louisiana woman faces 18 counts of bank fraud and identity theft after State Police accused her of using falsified Social Security numbers to collect casino jackpots and avoid an overdue child support obligation.
According to Louisiana State Police, the investigation began after L'Auberge Casino Baton Rouge reported suspected fraudulent activity to the agency's Gaming Enforcement Division in October 2024.
Investigators allege 43 year old Shamika Brown, of Alexandria, used falsified Social Security numbers to collect 16 jackpots at L'Auberge in 2020 totaling more than $41,000. Police said the alleged scheme was an attempt to circumvent payment of overdue child support owed to the Department of Children and Family Services.
Authorities also allege Brown collected a jackpot of nearly $2,500 at another Baton Rouge casino in 2023 using false identifying information.
In October 2024, Brown allegedly provided additional false Social Security numbers while attempting to collect a $1,264 jackpot at L'Auberge, prompting the investigation.
An arrest warrant was subsequently obtained through the 19th Judicial District Court .
Police said a Gaming Enforcement investigator recognized Brown at L'Auberge on Monday, Sept. 21, as she allegedly attempted to retrieve the same $1,264 jackpot involved in the 2024 investigation.
Brown was arrested on the outstanding warrant and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on 18 counts of bank fraud and identity theft.
Louisiana State Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could be filed.
The charges are allegations, and Brown is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
