Lehigh Acres, FL – A local man was taken into custody early Tuesday, September 15, 2026, following a violent altercation with a repossession driver in the 4000 block of 11th Street SW. The Lee County Sheriff 's Office reported that deputies responded to the scene around midnight after the driver alerted authorities to a dangerous confrontation occurring during the recovery of two vehicles.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the repossession driver told deputies that he was attempting to secure the vehicles when the homeowner, identified as Brandon Kolz, emerged from the residence armed with a pistol. Kolz allegedly confronted the driver, asking him, "Do you want to die?" before climbing into one of the vehicles while it was still attached to the tow truck. Fearing for his life, the driver released the vehicle, and as Kolz drove away, he allegedly fired a single gunshot.
Deputies tracked Kolz following the incident and successfully made contact with the suspect. Upon arrest, Kolz was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and the firearm used in the incident was recovered from his vehicle. It was later determined by investigators that Kolz was aware that he was behind on his car payments at the time of the altercation.
The incident remains under investigation as legal proceedings against Kolz begin. No injuries were reported during the encounter, and the sheriff's office has praised the repossession driver for acting cautiously in an escalating and volatile situation. Local law enforcement reminds citizens that disputes over personal property should never be addressed with violence or the use of deadly weapons.
