Crown Point, IN - A man has been found guilty of murder in connection with a 2023 fatal shooting in East Chicago, with sentencing scheduled for next month, Lake County prosecutors announced Thursday.
According to the Lake County Prosecutor's Office, Robert Allison was found guilty of murder in connection with the May 29, 2023, shooting death of Christian Ogbomon.
The case originated at a residence on Euclid Avenue in East Chicago, where authorities said Ogbomon was fatally shot. East Chicago police responded to the residence and launched an investigation that ultimately resulted in Allison being charged with murder.
Lake County Prosecutor Bernard A. Carter announced the guilty verdict Thursday, Sept. 10, crediting Deputy Prosecutor Bradley Carter and the East Chicago Police Department for their work on the case.
"This type of prosecution requires a tremendous amount of preparation and cooperation," Carter said in a statement. He added that he was grateful to the prosecutor and law enforcement personnel who worked to present the evidence in the case.
The prosecutor's office did not provide additional details Thursday about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or the evidence presented during Allison's trial.
Allison is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday, Oct. 7, according to prosecutors.
East Chicago is in Lake County in Northwest Indiana, within the greater Chicago metropolitan area. The case was investigated by the East Chicago Police Department and prosecuted through the Lake County Prosecutor's Office.
