Lake County, IN – A serious crash involving three semitrucks has forced the closure of eastbound Interstate 94 at Interstate 65 in northwest Indiana, creating a major disruption along one of the Chicago region's busiest interstate corridors.
According to Indiana State Police's Lowell Post, eastbound I 94 was closed at the I 65 interchange early Friday, Nov. 6, after a collision involving three commercial trucks.
Photographs released by state police show multiple damaged tractor trailers blocking the roadway, including a truck cab tilted against another semitruck and a trailer lying on its side.
Cleanup Expected to Take Several Hours Indiana State Police initially estimated that clearing the crash scene would take approximately four to five hours.
Heavy duty recovery equipment was visible at the scene as crews worked to remove damaged trucks and debris from the interstate.
The photographs also show cargo displaced inside one of the trailers.
Authorities have not released information confirming whether anyone was injured or what caused the collision.
I 94 Eastbound Detour Announced State police advised eastbound motorists to exit onto Interstate 65, continue to Ridge Road and return northbound on I 65 to reconnect with eastbound I 94 beyond the crash scene.
The closure could affect commuters, freight traffic and travelers moving between the Chicago metropolitan area and northwest Indiana.
Drivers approaching the interchange should anticipate possible backups and allow additional travel time while cleanup continues.
