Lake County, FL – Residents across parts of Lake County are being urged to prepare for rising water this weekend as additional rainfall threatens to push water beyond docks, into yards and across low lying areas.
According to Lake County Florida Emergency Management, increased rainfall is anticipated over the weekend, raising concerns about elevated water levels in vulnerable locations. Officials warned that some properties could experience water extending beyond waterfront docks and into surrounding yards.
The advisory comes as residents in the Central Florida county prepare for potentially hazardous conditions, particularly near waterways and areas prone to standing water.
Sandbags Available for Residents Lake County Fire Rescue has made a self service sandbag location available at Station 10, located at 23023 State Road 40 in Astor.
Residents concerned about water approaching their properties may use the location to prepare ahead of additional rainfall.
Officials have not specified how high water levels could rise or identified every neighborhood potentially affected.
Drivers Urged to Avoid Flooded Roads Emergency management officials are emphasizing roadway safety as standing water could create dangerous driving conditions.
Motorists encountering water covering a roadway should turn around and find another route. Even shallow water can create hazards, particularly when the depth or condition of the pavement underneath is unknown.
Officials also recommend reducing speed on wet roads, increasing following distances, avoiding sudden braking and using headlights to improve visibility.
Drivers should ensure their tires are properly inflated and have adequate tread.
For residents near lakes, canals and other waterways, the weekend rainfall could create additional concerns as water levels fluctuate.
Lake County residents are encouraged to monitor local emergency management updates throughout the weekend and remain alert for changing roadway conditions.
