Bethune, SC – A man is expected to recover after being shot in the stomach early Saturday in Bethune, while a 29 year old suspect has been taken into custody, authorities said.
According to the Kershaw County Sheriff ’s Office, deputies responded Saturday morning to a reported shooting in the 100 block of Wateree Grove Lane.
When deputies arrived, they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach area. The man was transported for medical treatment and is expected to recover from his injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators said the shooting was not believed to be a random act. Authorities said the victim and the suspect knew one another before the incident, although additional details about what allegedly led to the shooting were not immediately released.
The sheriff’s office identified the suspect as 29 year old Devanta Ray Lowery of Bethune.
According to authorities, Lowery was taken into custody and was being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center pending a bond hearing. The sheriff’s office did not specify charges in Saturday morning’s announcement.
Sheriff Lee Boan said deputies responded quickly, secured the scene and took the suspect into custody. He added that investigators will continue working to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said additional information will be released when available and appropriate.
Any allegations against the suspect remain accusations. Lowery is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
