Jackson, Kentucky – Thunderstorm chances increase across eastern Kentucky Wednesday before cooler, drier weather settles over the region late this week.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a surface trough will linger through midweek, keeping rain chances elevated and making Wednesday the wettest day in the five day outlook. Thunderstorms are likely, with rain chances ranging from 50% to 60% across eastern Kentucky.
Wednesday highs will range from 71 to 79 degrees. Anyone with outdoor plans should be prepared for thunderstorms and monitor conditions before traveling or spending extended periods outside.
Conditions begin changing Thursday as Canadian high pressure builds into the region. A few showers remain possible, but rain chances decrease from 20% to 0% through the day. Highs range from 69 to 78 degrees.
By Friday, eastern Kentucky enters a cooler and substantially drier stretch. Mostly sunny skies are expected with no rain indicated and highs from 67 to 76 degrees.
The dry weather continues Saturday. Highs will range from 68 to 76 degrees under mostly sunny skies, extending the autumn like conditions into the start of the weekend.
Residents should plan around the higher thunderstorm potential Wednesday. After lingering showers diminish Thursday, dry Canadian high pressure will bring cooler temperatures and mostly sunny weather Friday and Saturday.
