Salem, WI – The Kenosha County Sheriff ’s Office responded to an incident involving a student who brought a toy foam dart blaster to Salem School on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. School administration alerted law enforcement after discovering the item on campus earlier in the day.
According to the Kenosha County Sheriff ’s Office, the school's assigned School Resource Officer, Deputy Dominguez, arrived on the scene to assist administrators with evaluating the situation. Investigators confirmed that the item was indeed a toy and not a functional firearm, and they determined that the 11 year old student did not make any threats or exhibit any ill intent. No students or staff were in danger at any point during the incident.
Following a review of the circumstances, officials confirmed that no criminal charges are being sought by the sheriff's office. The school administration is currently handling the matter in accordance with its internal policies and procedures, and parents have been notified of the situation via email.
Authorities expressed appreciation for the cooperation and quick response of Salem School staff. While this situation resulted in no harm, the sheriff’s office is using the event to encourage parents and guardians to discuss the importance of not bringing toy or replica weapons to school facilities, as such items can be easily perceived as genuine threats.
