Kansas and Missouri Weather: Extreme Heat Until 8 PM Tuesday

Kansas City, Missouri – A stretch of dangerously hot weather is gripping portions of east central and northeast Kansas along with central, north central, northwest, and west central Missouri. The extreme heat, which began prior to Thursday, September 3, 2026, is now officially forecast to continue until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, the region will face persistent heat index values reaching as high as 103 degrees. The prolonged high temperatures and humidity levels significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses for residents throughout the affected counties.

Officials urge residents to prioritize their health and safety as the high-heat event continues. Recommended precautions include drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned environments, and limiting time spent directly in the sun. Citizens are also encouraged to regularly check on the wellbeing of relatives and neighbors, particularly those most vulnerable to heat stress, during this period.
