Kansas City, Missouri – A prolonged period of extreme heat is gripping parts of Kansas and Missouri, with dangerous conditions expected to persist through the evening of Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
According to the National Weather Service, residents across east central and northeast Kansas, as well as several regions in Missouri, should prepare for heat index values reaching as high as 103 degrees. The agency warns that the combination of extreme heat and high humidity significantly increases the risk of heat related illnesses for the general public.
Officials strongly urge the public to prioritize safety by drinking plenty of fluids and remaining in air conditioned environments whenever possible. Residents are encouraged to stay out of the direct sun and to check on the well being of neighbors and relatives who may be vulnerable to the high temperatures.
