JOSEPHINE COUNTY, OR – A missing person investigation spanning Nevada and Oregon has taken a disturbing turn after authorities discovered a missing man's remains buried on a rural Josephine County property where two other men were found dead following a confrontation with police.
According to Oregon State Police, the investigation began after Andrew Forrest Odom, 67, of Incline Village, Nevada, was reported missing to the Medford Police Department on Oct. 1.
Investigators determined Odom had traveled from Carson City, Nevada, to Medford on Sept. 21. His last known whereabouts were in Josephine County on Sept. 22.
As investigators uncovered suspicious circumstances, the case was transferred to Oregon State Police, and the Josephine County Major Crime Team was activated.
On Tuesday, Oct. 6, detectives contacted a person at a property in the 10000 block of Williams Highway in rural Josephine County.
Authorities said the individual fled into a residence and fired shots at detectives.
Tactical resources from the Grants Pass Police Department and Josephine County Sheriff's Office responded.
After officers cleared the residence, they discovered two deceased individuals with apparent gunshot wounds.
The men were identified as Rick Odom, 73, and his son, Spencer Odom, 40.
Investigators determined Spencer died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Rick Odom was identified as the brother of missing person Andrew Odom.
Two days later, on Thursday, Oct. 8, detectives working with the Oregon State Police Crime Lab discovered human remains buried on the property.
Authorities identified the remains as Andrew Odom, confirming the death of the missing Nevada man.
Investigators have not publicly established how Andrew or Rick Odom died or disclosed a motive connecting the deaths.
The investigation remains active, with multiple Oregon law enforcement agencies assisting.
Additional findings are expected as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding all three deaths.
