Indianapolis, IN – The US National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a heat warning for portions of central Indiana on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Residents are advised to expect heat indices exceeding 100 degrees, particularly for regions located south of Interstate 70.
According to the National Weather Service, the highest heat index values are forecast to approach 105 degrees in the far southwestern portions of central Indiana, specifically across Knox and Daviess counties. Forecasters estimate a probability of 60 to 100 percent for indices over 100 degrees in these areas. The most extreme heat is expected to occur between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. today.
Public safety officials are urging residents to take necessary precautions to avoid heat related illness.
