Washington, IN – Drivers in Washington and Daviess County should prepare for a two week closure of State Road 57 beginning on or around Monday, Sept. 21, as crews complete pavement repairs.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, State Road 57 will close between Old U.S. 50 and Center Street in Washington. The shutdown will allow crews to conduct pavement patching operations.
Work is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, although INDOT said the schedule is dependent on weather conditions.
The closure could affect motorists traveling through Washington, Daviess County and the broader southwestern Indiana region. Drivers who normally use State Road 57 should allow additional travel time and prepare to follow the designated detour.
INDOT& 39;s official detour will send motorists along State Road 257 to U.S. 50, then to Interstate 69 and State Road 58. Local traffic will still be permitted to travel up to the closure point, but vehicles will not be able to pass through the active work zone.
The Indiana State Police Jasper Post also shared information about the upcoming closure Wednesday as officials work to give motorists advance notice.
INDOT is reminding drivers approaching construction and work zones to reduce their speed, remain alert and avoid distractions.
Because the project is weather dependent, the reopening date could change if crews encounter delays. Motorists traveling through Washington during the closure should watch for posted detour signs and updated information from state transportation officials.
