Putnam County, IN — Drivers traveling along Interstate 70 in west central Indiana should prepare for ramp closures beginning Friday evening, Oct. 16, as construction crews temporarily restrict access to and from the eastbound interstate near Cloverdale.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, contractors will close two eastbound I 70 ramps at the U.S. 231 interchange to complete resurfacing operations.
The first closure is scheduled to begin on or after Friday evening, Oct. 16, when crews will shut down the eastbound I 70 exit ramp to U.S. 231 near Cloverdale.
The following evening, on or after Saturday, Oct. 17, contractors will close the U.S. 231 entrance ramp to eastbound I 70 at the same interchange.
Both closures are intended to allow crews to resurface the ramps and improve pavement conditions.
INDOT expects construction to take up to two evenings, although the schedule remains weather dependent and could change.
The closures will affect motorists exiting eastbound I 70 toward Cloverdale and those attempting to enter the interstate eastbound from U.S. 231.
Drivers using the interchange should plan alternate routes while the affected ramps are closed.
The transportation department has not identified a specific signed detour in its announcement.
INDOT is encouraging motorists to exercise caution near construction zones, watch for changing traffic conditions and allow additional travel time.
The work is part of ongoing roadway maintenance efforts in west central Indiana.
Motorists traveling through Putnam County, particularly those using the I 70 and U.S. 231 interchange, should check current road conditions before departing.
Drivers can monitor construction updates and traffic alerts through INDOT's TrafficWise service at 511in.org.
Additional information is available through INDOT West Central's official social media channels.
The closures are scheduled to begin Friday evening, Oct. 16, and Saturday evening, Oct. 17, weather permitting.
