North Riverside, IL – A swift response by the North Riverside Police Department on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, led to the apprehension of two suspects involved in an attempted residential burglary. At approximately 12:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Forestview Drive and 10th Avenue following a report of a suspicious vehicle.
According to police reports, a reporting party observed four males inside a silver vehicle parked on Forestview Drive. Three of the individuals reportedly exited the vehicle while wearing masks, fueling suspicion that they were preparing to commit a burglary. When officers arrived, they immediately detained the driver of the vehicle, while the three remaining subjects fled on foot into the surrounding residential area.
Attribution from the North Riverside Police Department indicates that officers successfully apprehended two of the three fleeing suspects. In response to the ongoing threat, an extensive search was conducted with the assistance of neighboring law enforcement agencies, police drones, and a canine unit from the Cook County Sheriff 's Office. As a precaution, the nearby Komarek School was placed on soft lockdown during the search.
While the third suspect is believed to have fled the area, authorities stated there is no ongoing threat to the community at this time. Officers were able to recover property believed to have been taken during the burglary attempt. The investigation remains active, and the department has expressed its gratitude to the community and assisting agencies for their rapid cooperation.
