Houston, Texas – Residents across Southeast Texas should prepare for potential travel disruptions as another round of showers and thunderstorms sweeps through the region today. With ground conditions already saturated from previous rainfall, particularly in areas east of Interstate 45, the threat of localized street flooding remains a primary concern for commuters and residents alike.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston Galveston , a plume of tropical moisture combined with an upper level disturbance is driving this unsettled weather. A marginal risk level 1 of 4 for excessive rainfall exists for the entire region today. Meteorologists warn that downpours could produce rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour in the most intense storms, leading to rapid water accumulation in low lying areas and locations with poor drainage.
Daytime temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s, with inland areas reaching 89 to 96 degrees and beaches seeing highs of 88 to 92 degrees. Light southeasterly winds will persist outside of thunderstorm activity. Officials urge drivers to exercise caution, avoid flooded roadways by remembering to turn around, and ensure they have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts.
Conditions will remain humid as the sun sets, with overnight lows dipping to between 72 and 78 degrees inland and 76 to 83 degrees near the coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible overnight, primarily west of Interstate 45, under light and variable winds. Residents should monitor local updates as the weather pattern continues to shift through the weekend.
