Frankfort, IL – A tragic traffic collision resulted in the death of a young child on September 8, 2026. Local authorities were called to the scene in the 500 block of Aberdeen Road at approximately 3:24 p.m. regarding an incident involving a juvenile pedestrian and a school bus. The situation has deeply affected the local area as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
According to the Village of Frankfort Police Department , officers arrived on the scene to find an unresponsive six year old who had sustained serious injuries. First responders and witnesses immediately performed CPR and other life saving measures before the child was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased. The school bus involved in the collision was carrying several other passengers at the time of the incident, though no other injuries were reported. Officials successfully made arrangements to reunite those passengers with their families.
Village President Keith Ogle and Police Chief Leanne Chelepis have expressed the department& 39;s deepest sympathies to the victim& 39;s family, loved ones, and the entire community. In a formal statement, the department requested that the public and media respect the privacy of all those impacted by this heartbreaking event, allowing them the time and compassion necessary to process the loss.
