Frankfort Police Charge Mother With First-Degree Murder Today

Frankfort, IL – A Frankfort mother is facing three counts of first-degree murder following the death of her 2-year-old child earlier this week, according to police, as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the child's death.

According to the Frankfort Police Department, officers were called to the 22700 block of Brook Stone Court at approximately 4:04 p.m. Monday after receiving a report of an unresponsive juvenile. The child was transported from the home to a local hospital, where the juvenile was later pronounced dead.

Police said the child's mother, identified as 38-year-old Corie A. Walsh, was also transported to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Three other juveniles were found at the residence and were unharmed, according to the department.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday by the Will County Coroner's Office. Police said Friday that the final cause and manner of death remain pending.

Following an investigation by the Frankfort Police Department and the Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force, Walsh was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, authorities announced Friday.

Walsh remained in custody Friday while receiving medical treatment, according to police. Once she is released from treatment, authorities said she will be transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility to await a detention hearing.

The case involves Frankfort, a Will County community southwest of Chicago. Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active and said no additional details were available as of Friday morning.

Frankfort Police Chief Leanne Chelepis thanked the Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force, Will County State's Attorney's Office and other law enforcement agencies and public safety partners for assisting with the investigation.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, their loved ones, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy," the department said in its statement. Police also asked the community to respect the family's privacy.

The charges are allegations, and Walsh is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. Further information, including findings from the coroner and details concerning court proceedings, could become available as the investigation and criminal case move forward.
