Frackville, PA – Authorities have announced the arrest of 20 year old Joshua Jakson Mercado in connection with an armed robbery that took place on August 21, 2026, at the Speedway location on 520 South Lehigh Avenue in West Mahanoy Township. The case, initially reported by Pennsylvania State Police Troop L, involved an suspect who reportedly displayed a firearm before fleeing the scene on foot.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the investigation successfully identified Mercado as the suspect who allegedly wore a face covering, a gray hooded sweatshirt, and black Nike sweatpants during the crime. Following his apprehension, Mercado was charged with first degree felony counts of robbery and burglary, alongside charges of theft by unlawful taking, terroristic threats, and recklessly endangering another person.
Mercado is currently being held at the Schuylkill County Prison, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 30, 2026. The docket for the case, MJ 21201 CR 0000182 2026, includes multiple felony and misdemeanor counts related to the incident. Police also noted that a white sedan, last seen traveling south on Route 61, may have been involved in the crime.
