Fayette County, IA – A partially overturned vehicle discovered in a ditch in Fayette County led to multiple traffic citations and an unrelated arrest after sheriff's deputies responded to the scene Monday night.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff 's Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 10:41 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, to the area of 30th Street and F Avenue following a report of a vehicle in a ditch.
Investigators determined the vehicle had actually entered the ditch and partially rolled over Sunday, Oct. 11, at approximately 8 p.m., more than a day before deputies responded.
Driver Faces Multiple Traffic Charges
When deputies arrived, several people were attempting to pull the damaged vehicle out of the ditch.
Following an investigation, authorities identified the driver involved in the original crash as Nicole Leanne Burgos, 33, of Lamont, Iowa.
Burgos was summoned to court on charges including driving while license suspended, driving without required SR 22 insurance and failure to maintain control.
The sheriff's office estimated the vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 in damage.
Authorities did not report any injuries in their announcement.
Second Individual Arrested at Crash Scene
During the investigation, deputies also identified Troy Christopher Miller, 38, who was present at the scene.
A records check revealed Miller had an active arrest warrant through Fayette County for failure to appear on an original charge of eluding.
Deputies arrested Miller and transported him to the Fayette County Jail.
Miller was also charged with driving while suspended after investigators determined he had driven a separate vehicle to the crash location.
The sheriff's office did not announce additional arrests or provide information about future court dates.
The charges are allegations, and both individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
