Eastern Washington's Spokane area is heading into a cooler stretch this weekend, with temperatures expected to fall 15 degrees between Friday and Tuesday as sunshine gradually gives way to increasing cloud cover.
According to the National Weather Service forecast for Spokane, temperatures will reach approximately 73 degrees Friday before dropping to 68 Saturday, 62 Sunday and the upper 50s early next week.
The change will bring cooler October afternoons following a brief period of warmer weather, while overnight temperatures remain chilly.
Weekend Brings Sunshine and Cooler Nights Saturday begins the five day period with mostly sunny skies and a high near 68 degrees, five degrees below Friday's projected high.
Temperatures will fall to approximately 38 degrees Saturday night under partly cloudy skies.
Sunday brings another noticeable decline, with afternoon temperatures reaching around 62 degrees.
Despite the cooler conditions, mostly sunny skies are expected to continue through Sunday afternoon.
Cloud cover increases Sunday night, when temperatures are forecast to fall near 39 degrees.
The combination of cooler afternoons and overnight readings in the upper 30s will make mornings and evenings noticeably colder than daytime conditions.
The National Weather Service forecast identifies frost and patchy fog during the mornings of Wednesday through Friday, but does not explicitly extend those conditions into the Saturday through Tuesday outlook.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts if overnight temperatures trend closer to freezing.
Upper 50s Arrive Early Next Week The cooling trend continues Monday, when Spokane's afternoon high is expected to reach approximately 59 degrees under mostly cloudy skies.
That represents a 14 degree decline from Friday's projected high.
Monday night remains mostly cloudy, with temperatures falling near 38 degrees.
Tuesday brings partly sunny skies and another cool afternoon, with a high near 58 degrees.
The supplied National Weather Service forecast does not indicate rain or snow for Spokane during the five day period.
NOAA's separate national discussion highlights a significant cold air outbreak across portions of the central United States late this week, but does not establish that system as the cause of Spokane's cooling trend.
The available forecast supports a gradual transition toward cooler conditions in Spokane, although temperatures elsewhere across Eastern Washington may differ.
