DuPage County, IL – Two former suburban Chicago police officers have been charged with official misconduct after prosecutors accused them of using law enforcement databases and automated license plate recognition technology to conduct unauthorized searches.
According to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, a grand jury indicted former Itasca Police Department officer Marisa Ciccola, 30, on 21 counts, including 13 counts of official misconduct and eight counts of computer tampering.
Former West Chicago Police Department officer Derek Solis, 39, was indicted on one count each of official misconduct and computer tampering.
Prosecutors allege Ciccola made unauthorized and prohibited Illinois license plate inquiries on multiple occasions between June 2025 and May 2026 while acting in her official capacity. The searches allegedly involved the Law Enforcement Agencies Data System and Flock automated license plate recognition system.
Solis allegedly conducted an unauthorized Illinois license plate inquiry using the Flock system between Dec. 18, 2024, and Jan. 15, 2025.
Arrest warrants were issued for both former officers following the indictments. Authorities said Ciccola and Solis surrendered Monday and were released on their own recognizance.
Itasca and West Chicago police officials said their departments cooperated with the investigation and emphasized their commitment to accountability and public trust.
Both defendants are scheduled to return to court Nov. 16. Ciccola's case is assigned to Judge Brian Telander, while Solis' case is assigned to Judge Mia McPherson.
The charges are accusations. Ciccola and Solis are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
