Door County, WI – A 26 year old California man is facing 27 felony charges following an investigation into the alleged online sexual exploitation of a minor in northeastern Wisconsin, authorities announced Tuesday, Nov. 3.
According to the Door County Sheriff 's Office, Jason E. Villa, of Buena Park, California, was arrested Tuesday in Orange County, California, by special agents with the Department of Homeland Security, assisted by local law enforcement.
The arrest followed an investigation involving allegedly inappropriate online communications and sexually exploitative conduct involving a juvenile from Door County.
Investigation Leads to 27 Felony Charges
Investigators said they developed probable cause to identify Villa as a suspect, leading Door County Judge Jennifer Moeller to authorize a nationwide arrest warrant on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
Authorities confirmed that Villa faces 27 felony counts under Wisconsin law, including:
Nine counts of child sexual exploitation. Nine counts of exposing a child to harmful descriptions. Nine counts of exposing genitals or intimate parts. The charges stem from the investigation into alleged online interactions involving the minor.
Suspect Awaiting Extradition to Wisconsin
Following his arrest, Villa was taken to the Orange County Jail in California, where authorities said he remains in custody pending extradition to Door County for criminal proceedings.
The Sheriff's Office confirmed that the investigation remains active and that additional information is being withheld to protect the juvenile's identity and preserve the investigation.
Authorities are also encouraging parents and guardians to monitor children's online activities and report suspicious or inappropriate communications involving minors.
The investigation underscores cooperation between Wisconsin investigators, federal agents and California law enforcement in addressing alleged online exploitation across state lines.
Villa is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
