Denver, Colorado – Fall begins Tuesday with Denver area highs reaching 75 to 82 degrees before cooler, wetter weather spreads across the region Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, moisture will begin returning to Colorado's high country Tuesday, producing a few afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Most lower elevations will remain dry.
A stray, brief shower or sprinkle remains possible along the urban corridor and plains Tuesday, but warmer temperatures will be the more noticeable feature. Highs across those lower elevations will range from 75 to 82 degrees.
Conditions will be cooler in the mountains and valleys, where Tuesday highs range from 65 to 72. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible there during the afternoon and evening.
The pattern becomes wetter Wednesday as precipitation chances increase across the region. Scattered thunderstorms are expected in both the mountains and lower elevations.
Temperatures along the urban corridor and plains will range from 74 to 80 degrees Wednesday. Mountain and valley highs drop to between 61 and 67.
A more pronounced cooldown arrives Thursday. Highs across the urban corridor and plains fall to between 65 and 74 degrees, while mountain and valley temperatures reach only 56 to 62. Scattered thunderstorms remain possible.
Residents heading into Colorado's high country Tuesday should monitor changing conditions during the afternoon and evening, when thunderstorms could develop.
For Denver and the surrounding lower elevations, the first day of astronomical fall will still feel warm. The bigger transition comes Wednesday into Thursday as moisture expands across the region, thunderstorm chances increase and daytime temperatures begin to fall.
