Sycamore, IL – Drivers in DeKalb County should prepare for delays and detours beginning Tuesday, Oct. 13, when a section of Peace Road closes for approximately one week ahead of the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival.
According to the DeKalb County Highway Department, Peace Road between Illinois Route 64 and Freed Road will close at the Kishwaukee River bridge for paving and related construction.
Crews plan to complete the work before the start of the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival. The closure is also intended to protect workers as operations take place across all lanes of the roadway.
The project includes milling pavement joints at both ends of the bridge, paving with hot mix asphalt, applying joint sealant, installing and adjusting guardrails, adding pavement markings and sealing the concrete bridge deck.
A marked detour will direct motorists along Motel Road and Freed Road. A DeKalb County Sheriff 's deputy is expected to assist with traffic control at Illinois Route 64 and Motel Road during morning and afternoon rush hours.
Officials warned that delays could develop during busy travel periods. Drivers traveling through Sycamore may encounter additional congestion as vehicles move onto alternate routes.
Motorists who can avoid the construction area are encouraged to use Illinois Route 23 and Illinois Route 64 through Sycamore, according to the county.
All work is weather dependent, meaning the schedule could change if conditions interfere with construction.
The roadway is expected to reopen before the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival begins. Drivers should allow additional travel time and watch for temporary traffic controls throughout the closure.
