Davidson County, NC – A 42 year old Lexington man is behind bars on a $500,000 bond after authorities charged him with four felony offenses involving allegations of sexual abuse of a juvenile female, following an investigation that began with a report from a Davidson County school.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff 's Office, investigators received a report in April 2026 concerning allegations of sexual abuse involving a juvenile female. The case was subsequently assigned to the agency's Criminal Investigations Division.
Detectives conducted numerous interviews and pursued multiple investigative leads over several months before presenting their findings to a Davidson County magistrate.
Authorities said the magistrate determined sufficient probable cause existed to authorize criminal charges.
Four Felony Charges Filed
On Thursday, Oct. 15, deputies charged Joseph Daniel Krebs, 42, of Lexington, North Carolina, with four felony offenses:
Two counts of felony statutory sexual offense with a person 15 years of age or younger. Two counts of felony taking indecent liberties with children. The Sheriff's Office said Krebs voluntarily surrendered to detectives Thursday.
Due to the nature of the allegations, the magistrate initially did not set a bond pending Krebs' first appearance before a judicial official.
$500,000 Bond Set, Court Date Scheduled
During his first court appearance, a judicial official set Krebs' bond at $500,000.
As of the Sheriff's Office announcement, Krebs remained in custody at the Davidson County Detention Center.
His next appearance in Davidson County District Court is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed additional details about the alleged incidents or the juvenile involved.
The Sheriff's Office emphasized its commitment to investigating allegations involving children and pursuing accountability through the judicial process.
Under North Carolina law, judicial officials determine conditions of pretrial release.
Krebs is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
