Jackson, KY – Above normal warmth will continue across eastern Kentucky through Friday before a cold front brings rain chances and a sharp cooldown for the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, Thursday and Friday highs are forecast to range from 82 to 89 degrees across the region. Thursday should remain dry and sunny before rain chances increase late in the week.
Overnight lows Wednesday night are expected to range from 50 to 64 degrees. Thursday night will stay relatively mild, with lows from 54 to 69.
Rain chances return Friday as the cold front approaches. The Weather Service’s five day outlook shows precipitation probabilities ranging from about 50% to 90% during the Friday period, depending on timing and location.
The front will usher in much cooler temperatures by Saturday. Forecast highs fall to between 66 and 75 degrees, compared with the 80s expected Thursday and Friday. Saturday night lows are forecast from 50 to 62 degrees.
Rain chances will continue into the weekend. The NWS outlook shows about a 40% chance Saturday, with chances generally decreasing during Sunday. Sunday highs are forecast from 69 to 75 degrees, followed by lows ranging from 48 to 57.
Forecasters said the cooler pattern will continue after the front passes, with chilly conditions expected to begin the first full week of October.
Residents across eastern Kentucky can expect the main transition late Friday into the weekend, when warm, dry conditions give way to periods of rain and substantially cooler temperatures.
