CLAY COUNTY, MO – Drivers traveling through the Kansas City metropolitan area are facing a major highway closure Monday, Oct. 12, after a semi truck overturned and spilled a large load of corn across the roadway, blocking traffic in both directions.
According to the Clay County Sheriff 's Office, Highway 210 is closed in both directions at Highway JJ following the crash, which left the semi lying on its side and its cargo scattered across the pavement.
The sheriff's office issued the traffic alert Monday, warning motorists about the obstruction and the need to avoid the affected stretch of highway.
Photographs released by authorities show a red semi truck overturned across the roadway, with its trailer stretched across the pavement and a substantial amount of corn spilled onto the highway.
Sheriff's vehicles were positioned near the crash scene as emergency personnel responded.
Driver Transported to Hospital
Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The semi truck driver was able to exit the vehicle and walk following the incident. However, an ambulance transported him to a hospital after he reported experiencing pain.
The sheriff's office did not provide additional information about the driver's condition or what caused the truck to overturn.
Traffic Disruptions Expected
The closure affects both directions of Highway 210 at JJ, creating a significant obstruction for motorists traveling through this portion of Clay County.
Drivers approaching the area should seek alternate routes and allow additional travel time while emergency crews address the crash scene.
