Henryville, IN – Drivers traveling Interstate 65 in southern Indiana should prepare for delays Tuesday night as crews temporarily close both directions of the highway near Henryville for utility repairs.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, a series of short term closures will begin at 9 p.m. Tuesday on I 65 just south of Henryville at Exit 19 in Clark County.
Utility crews will close both northbound and southbound I 65 for up to 10 minutes at a time while overhead utility repairs are completed.
Three separate closures are scheduled, with each expected to occur approximately 30 minutes apart. INDOT anticipates the work will be completed by midnight, weather permitting.
Although each individual shutdown is expected to be brief, delays could develop as traffic backs up on both sides of the work area. Drivers traveling between the Louisville metropolitan area and communities north of Henryville should allow additional time or consider an alternate route Tuesday night.
Indiana State Police shared the closure information Tuesday afternoon, emphasizing the potential impact on motorists using the busy interstate.
INDOT is asking drivers approaching the work zone to slow down, use extra caution and avoid distractions. Motorists should also be prepared for stopped traffic as crews complete each temporary shutdown.
The work schedule is weather dependent and could change if conditions interfere with the planned repairs.
Drivers can check current highway conditions and restrictions through INDOT before traveling. The closures are expected to end once utility work is completed, with normal I 65 traffic resuming by midnight if the project remains on schedule.
