Chesterfield County, VA – Hunters and prospective hunters in the Richmond area can sign up now for free in person hunter safety education courses being offered in Chesterfield County this fall, but officials warn that seating is limited.
According to the Chesterfield County Sheriff 's Office, two hunter safety education classes will be offered in partnership with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. The sessions are scheduled for Oct. 13 14 and Nov. 18 19.
The October course will be held at the Eanes Pittman Public Training Center in Chesterfield. The Virginia DWR registration page lists the Oct. 13 session from 6 to 9 p.m., with an additional class day required.
As of the registration page shown Tuesday, nine of 20 seats remained for the October course, meaning more than half of the available spots had already been claimed.
The sheriff's office said both fall courses are free and conducted in person. Each course spans two evenings, with classes scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m.
Virginia's hunter education program is designed to teach participants about safe and responsible hunting practices. Anyone interested in attending should register through the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources' Hunter Education system.
Other DWR Basic Hunter Education courses are also scheduled across Virginia throughout October, including classes in Stafford, Pound, Haysi, Rural Retreat, Chesapeake, Boydtown and Duffield. Availability varies by location, with some October courses already showing wait lists.
For Chesterfield County residents interested in the local course, early registration may be important because of the limited capacity.
