Charleston, WV – A stretch of quiet weather across West Virginia is expected to give way to increasing rain chances late Saturday night into early next week, with cooler temperatures arriving by Sunday.
The National Weather Service in Charleston said quiet weather should generally persist through Saturday, aside from a weak front crossing the area Thursday. A separate system is then expected to bring chances for widespread rain beginning late Saturday night.
Before that change, lowland communities can expect highs from the 70s into the lower 80s Wednesday, followed by temperatures mainly in the 70s Thursday and Friday. Saturday could bring another warm afternoon, with lowland highs ranging from the 70s to lower 80s.
Mountain communities will remain cooler. Highs are forecast from the 60s into the mid 70s Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with a similar range Saturday.
The more noticeable temperature change arrives Sunday as the late weekend system affects the region. Lowland highs are expected to range from the lower to middle 70s, while mountain temperatures fall into the mid 50s to upper 60s.
The NWS describes the Thursday front as weak, with generally quiet conditions continuing through Saturday. The higher impact change is expected later in the weekend, when widespread rain becomes possible.
Specific rainfall totals and precise timing were not provided in the outlook, so the magnitude of the late weekend rain remains uncertain.
Residents should expect generally quiet weather through most of Saturday, then watch for updated forecasts as the approaching system brings increasing rain chances late Saturday night into Sunday and potentially early next week.
