Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois is moving deeper into October, but the first frost of the season does not appear imminent, with another stretch of mild, dry weather expected through late week.
According to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois, temperatures will cool modestly through Monday night before warming again during the middle of the week and into next weekend. Dry conditions are expected to continue.
The forecast is notable as Illinois enters the part of fall when gardeners and growers increasingly begin watching for the season’s first frost. However, the current NWS forecast does not indicate frost conditions across central Illinois through Thursday night.
Instead, Sunday will feature ample sunshine with highs from 72 to 80 degrees, with the warmest readings generally from Interstate 72 south. Overnight lows should remain between 45 and 50.
Monday brings another small step downward, with highs of 68 to 74 degrees. Monday night is forecast to be the coolest period shown, with lows ranging from 42 to 47 — still several degrees above typical frost thresholds.
Temperatures rebound quickly Tuesday. Highs are forecast from 73 to 78, followed by 75 to 83 Wednesday and 73 to 81 Thursday. Overnight temperatures also moderate, with lows generally returning to the upper 40s and 50s.
Rain chances remain below 10% throughout the period shown by the NWS.
For residents waiting on the first frost of the season, the immediate forecast offers little sign of it. Central Illinois will remain mild and predominantly sunny through Thursday, and gardeners should continue monitoring later October forecasts for the next meaningful push of colder air.
